History:
In February 1999, a group of seven Missouri artists came together and agreed to form an organization dedicated to the love of watermedia painting. the seven artists agreed to serve on the Board of Directors of a state organization which would represent all watermedia artists. The organization woul be known as the Missouri Watercolor Society. From this humble beginning MoWS has become a powerful, well-known state organization with a national membership of 350 members.

Since 1999, the society has the unique privilege of calling the Anson Cutts Gallery home. This gallery is located in the prestigious Winston Churchill Memorial and Library on the campus of Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. Over 35,000 tourists see MoWS exhibitions at the memorial each year.

Mission Statement
The Missouri Watercolor Society was formed to increase public awareness and appreciation of watermedia;
to educate the public and provide support to artists through workshops, lectures, and exhibitions;
and to maintain the highest aesthetic standards through competitive exhibitions for artists working in watermedia.

The Missouri Watercolor Society maintains both a society website (www.MoWS.com) where personal galleries of members are posted as well as the Watercolor Missouri National Exhibition. The Missouri Watercolor Society is one of the few societies to publish a magazine, Watercolor Studio, and members are encouraged to contribute articles and art tips to the magaizne. Members of the MoWS are well versed in providing materials for publication, articles from the membership have also appeared in such magaiznes as American Artist, The Artists Magazine, Watercolor, Watercolor Magic and Southwest Art.
Each year MoWS sponsors the Watercolor Missouri National, internationally known this competitive juried exhibition results in a gallery of 100 to 115 paintings being granted space at the Anson Cutts Gallery.
