The West Coast's most acclaimed fine art event, The Sausalito Art Festival, takes place over the Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 30 – Sept. 1, 2003. Since its inauguration in 1952, over one million visitors have attended the event, now rated America's #1 outdoor fine art festival. The best local, American and international artists bring their combined perspectives, virtuoso skills, and show more than 20,000 original works of art — including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fine glass, woodwork, mixed media, and photography.
The Festival also features international entertainment, children’s activities, gourmet foods and fine wines. A Black Tie Preview Party kicks off the festivities on Friday, Aug. 29.

Travelers planning to stay in the area over the Labor Day Weekend may contact the Sausalito Art Festival website for lodging referrals and information. Reservations should be made well in advance for this very popular weekend. Sausalito, 2 miles from San Francisco and just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, is nestled on the Bay shoreline with breathtaking views. The Festival is located at The Army Corps of Engineers-Bay Model Visitor Center and Marinship Park in historic Sausalito, where Liberty Ships were built during World War II. Known for attracting artists long before the Golden Gate Bridge was constructed, Sausalito's unique cultural community continues to attract artists and art enthusiasts.
The Sausalito Art Festival continues to support the arts and community non-profits through grant programs, artist awards, scholarships, and Community Service Programs
.

In recent years over $1,000,000 in proceeds has been returned to the community.
