Venice California, is, after Disneyland,
the second most popular tourist destination in Southern California,.
Unlike Disneyland, Venice is also a community. Houses line the beautifully
canals and residents have the choice of using a canoe to visit their
neighbors. The boardwalk has numerous sidewalk cafes where people out
for dinner, simply skate with their dogs to their favorite restaurant
for a dinner eaten while watching television and movie crews film along
the famous strand.
An environment so unique along the Southern California coast has, as
one would expect, attracted more than a city’s share of artists.
One weekend a year 55 of these artists’ studios open their doors
to the public during the Venice Art Walk and Auction.
Organized to raise funds for the Venice Family Clinic, the Venice Art
Walk auctions off 440 pieces of art donated by local artists, provides
food from the many creative and unique restaurants of the community
and sells tickets to the tour of 55 artists’ studios and private
galleries.
The Venice Family Clinic is the largest medical outreach facility in
the United States and support for the clinics programs is very strong.,
expectation for funds during this, their 25th annual art walk, was expected
to exceed $650,000. 466 local physicians donate their time to provide
much needed services to the many low-income men, women, children, teens
and seniors who lack health insurance.
