Art Institute of San Diego outreach to children at risk

Linda Vista Leaders - Montgomery Academy

Linda Vista Leaders is a youth program allied with The San Diego Art Institute, The Montgomery Academy works with young people in the San Diego, California community. The following summary was written by an 8th grade student, Ms. Leslie Cook, who has trained at the Montgomery Academy in the program for two years.

Leaders is a program that focuses on building leadership qualities in the youths of the community. We strengthen our character by doing interactive field trips like mentoring at a nearby elementary school. We also practice public speaking skills and even get chances to put them to use through television interviews, and speaking at assemblies in our school and others. And lastly, we are actively involved in black and white photography. We have our own darkroom where students can print the pictures they’ve taken. Sometimes they even end up in art shows, like this year’s at the San Diego Art Institute. - Ms. Leslie Cook
