Lakewood is located just north of Long Beach in Southern California. The Lakewood Artists Guild founded in 1957, organizes an annual art competition each year for 18 high schools and middle schools in the area. This year the Guild received 489 general entries and 71 scholarship applications. Several days are dedicated by the Lakewood Artists Guild for reviewing and judging the art. Eight $ 500.00 Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors and juniors along with certificates from the California State Assembly, California State Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. 66 additional cash awards are also given to children from Kindergarten up. In speaking to these young people after the awards ceremony, many of them had already been accepted at Cal-State Long Beach, one of the nation's best graphic design programs, or Pasadena's prestigious Art Center. The Student Winners:
