High school students who take four years of Arts score 100 points higher on the SAT

The Arts teach the skills essential for success in the global marketplace: risk-taking, out-of-the-box creative thinking, team problem solving, excellence as the standard and academic discipline

Students who are involved in the Arts have improved self-esteem and are less likely to skip school or engage in disruptive classroom behavior

Students who take Art have improved attention spans, increased interest in school and foundations of success on which to build

Participation in the Arts promotes tolerance for other cultures, Art is about working together, about communication, about bridges and connections.

Purpose:

The purposes of the Lakewood Artist Guild are the advancement of art, such as watercolor and oil paintings, modeling, carving, sculpturing, mosaic-work, drawing and all types of handcrafts, in the city of Lakewood and its vicinity by:
Enlightening the public in relation to the province of art, and to bring a fuller understanding of the great value of art to the people of Southern California, as well as an appreciation of art in all its phases.
The education of our youth to the end that they may know and value works of art. Scholarships are given to deserving youths.
Promoting friendly dialogue and mutual understanding between artists and the public at large.
The support of efforts to make Lakewood and vicinity more beautiful.
Endorsing and encouraging any movement that simulates art education through exhibitions, lectures, and the meeting between artists and art critics for the benefit of the members in helping to improve their work.
