High school students who take four years of Arts score 100 points higher on the SAT

The Arts teach the skills essential for success in the global marketplace: risk-taking, out-of-the-box creative thinking, team problem solving, excellence as the standard and academic discipline

Students who are involved in the Arts have improved self-esteem and are less likely to skip school or engage in disruptive classroom behavior

Students who take Art have improved attention spans, increased interest in school and foundations of success on which to build

Participation in the Arts promotes tolerance for other cultures, Art is about working together, about communication, about bridges and connections.

The beginning of school, early childhood education embodies the concept of active learning and the correlation between knowledge and experience. Art Education promotes this concept in the later years but the funding for art programs is decreasing.

Rosie's Girls

Rosie's Girls is a national program inspired by the second world war poster of Rosie the Riveter, the program is designed to build self-esteeem, leadership and physical confidence with a group of girls at a 3-week camp each summer.

This program is a perfect example of the power of expression to change lives. The girls are immersed in a variety of activites including carpentry, painting, electrical work, writing workshops and graphic design. In addition they learn additional skills such as fire fighting, tree trimming and various technical trades in a "behind the scenes" collboration with the City of Santa Monica Maintenance Division and the Human Resources Division. More than 80 community members participate in teaching and mentoring the girls. It's not all work, the girls also learn kayaking, surfing, self-defense and other physical skills.

Coming out of this program the girls are transformed. The results include self-confidence, critical thinking skills, leadership abilities and a willingness to assert themselves in community activities.
Rosie's Girls Programs exist across the United States, the work below is from the Santa Monica Rosie's Girls Program
